Mia returns home from boarding school, facing expulsion for giving a younger girl Valium. She took it from her mother, Martha. Her brother Henry is recovering from a drinking session with Martha the night before. Their father flies back from Hong Kong and is shocked to learn that Henry has dropped out of school and is living in chaos with his mother, both of them dependent on alcohol – and each other.
